Maharashtra Elections: Congress releases second list, fields candidate for disputed Nagpur South seat.

The Congress presented its second list of 23 candidates for the Maharashtra Assembly elections on Saturday morning, days after publishing its initial list of 48.

The second list has several newcomers, three women, and only one sitting MLA, Kailash Gorantyal from Jalna Assembly. About 13 of 23 seats come from Vidarbha, where the Congress hopes to gain ground.

The Congress won the Nagpur South seat, which had divided the Congress and Maha Vikas Aghadi ally Shiv Sena (UBT). That seat’s party candidate is Girish Pandav.

Congress leader Sunil Kedar’s wife Anuja will run for Nagpur’s Savner seat. Sunil was convicted and resigned as MLA. The party nominated his wife while his Supreme Court appeal is underway. From his hometown Ralegaon, former minister Vasant Purke will run.

The Congress nominated three Mumbai candidates. Kalu Badheliya will challenge BJP’s Atul Bhatkhalkar in Kandivali East, Yashwant Singh in Charkop against Yogesh Sagar, and Ganesh Yadav in Sion Koliwada against Tamil Selvan.

The son of prominent party leader Shivajirao Moghe, Jitendra, will run for Arni (ST). Suresh Bhoyar will challenge BJP state chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule from Kamthi and Shekhar Shende from Wardha.

Maharashtra assembly elections will be held on November 20 and results announced on November 23.
