Chelsea Edge Past Newcastle 2-1, Crystal Palace Shuts Down Tottenham

At Stamford Bridge on Sunday in the Premier League, Chelsea secured a 2-1 victory against Newcastle United; Crystal Palace defeated Tottenham 1-0 at Selhurst Park.

While Jean- Phillipe Mateta’s lone strike cleared the path for a 1-0 victory for Palace against the Spurs, Nicholas Jackson and Cole Palmer netted for Chelsea in their 2-1 victory against Newcastle United.

With an 18th-minute strike from Nicholas Jackson, Chelsea broke the tie at Stamford Bridge before Alexander Isak pulled back in the 32nd minute of the game. The teams entered their break all level and with everything yet to play for. Cole Palmer raised the enthusiasm of the London audience by helping the Blues ahead two minutes after play resumed.

Crystal Palace gained a lead against the Tottenham Hotspurs of Ange Postecogleu. Against a dismal Spurs team, Mateta grabbed the sole goal of the day to collect all points on offer at home.

With Palmer at the core of their best work, the Blues returned to winning ways. For offside inside the opening five minutes, the England international had a goal only somewhat called out.

Though not credited with the assist, Palmer designed the opening goal since his exquisite ball over the top freed Pedro Neto, who picked out Nicolas Jackson to slot in his sixth goal of the season.

With pressure on Eddie Howe ahead of a League Cup showdown against Chelsea on Wednesday, Newcastle is currently zero in five league games. Before half-time, the Magpies did go back on level terms as Alexander Isak knocked in Lewis Hall’s cross at the conclusion of a well-executed movement.

Palmer made the decisive impact in just two minutes into the second session with a driving surge forward and forceful finish that defeated Nick Pope at his near post. Newcastle ought to have left London with a point, though, as Isak missed a great opportunity to level 15 minutes from time after rounding Robert Sanchez.

Although Palace started the day in the relegation zone, they were good value for the three points at Selhurst Park as Tottenham’s road problems persist.

Spurs slipped to eighth, four points off the top four, after winning just once in five away league games this season.
